We made it! We crossed the Antarctic Circle at 8:10 a.m. local time today, and soon after we spotted our first icebergs. After 60 hours of traveling with no visible land, this was a welcome sight. You just can’t believe the gorgeous hues of blue and white floating in the icy ocean.
Until now we’ve been in a waiting mode as we crossed the choppy Drake Passage, and we’ve spent our time learning a bit more about Antarctica from the onboard experts as well as getting to know our fellow passengers.
These are the kind of people who lead pretty adventurous lives, from extensive travel to remote places, to sailing around the world, to swimming with whales. There are as many stories as there are people on board, and it is has been fun (and inspiring) to get to know them on our journey.
Still to come:
- Our first Zodiac boat ride
- Our first landing on Antarctica
- An overnight camping trip with 18 other hardy souls
Heading out now to see the killer whales…stay tuned for more!
