January is a tough month. You’ve come down from the holiday buzz, for one. No parties to attend, no gifts to unwrap, no decadent food to eat.
The excess of the past 6 weeks has shown up in unpleasant ways: a tug of war when you try to fasten the button your pants, a credit card bill that should belong to someone who makes a lot more money than you do, and a walk of shame to the recycling bin with all the clinking glass from your bottles.
Yep, it’s January, alright.
And if you were feeling a little bit overwhelmed about your life before the festivities started, this holiday hangover feels more like the flu. Will it ever end?
Never fear! We have a quick remedy for you, the perfect cure for your malaise (actually, 10 of them).
But first, you should know what’s coming in February to amp up the rest of your year.
Your Willpower Is NOT the Problem
Whew! Good news, huh? What we’ve learned in the past 10 years of creating our ideal life and working with thousands of other like-minded people is that you don’t have to get good at being mean to yourself to achieve your goals.
(That’s really what willpower is, right? Let’s call it what it is.)
The goal is to set up your environment to support what you want most, to make it *impossible* to not achieve the lifestyle you want. But it’s hard to think about how to do that, what with your current overwhelm and all.
So we’ve designed a step-by-step course with live support from us that addresses that very problem.
In Clarity Clinic, you’ll learn how to clear the deck of everything NOT working for you so you can build the life that can. What you’ll gain at the end of this course is SPACE—in your schedule, your wallet, your home, and your soul—so you can finally FOCUS on what you want.
No willpower required.
If this is the kind of thing you’re looking for in 2016, then we invite you to sign up now. Class is limited to 50 people so we can provide live support (via weekly group coaching calls and daily private FB group interaction), and we’re already halfway full. Now on to the Freedom fix for your holiday hangover…
10 Ways to Add Freedom to Your Life
You can download all 10 ways in our handy guide, so don’t even worry about taking notes as you listen to today’s podcast. We’ve got you covered. But one we want to delve into now is a favorite, and one you can do right now, in this moment.
Move your body.
You hear so much about exercise, especially at this time of year, and how you can lose weight, firm up, and protect your heart. One overlooked aspect of exercise—and the prime benefit, if you ask us!—is the feeling of freedom that comes from it.
Stretch your arms up to the sky. Open your heart to the sun (or the clouds, depending on the weather). Feel your body unkink, unwind, and unglue as you do something other than sit or stand.
Wiggle your fingers. Scrunch your toes in the carpet (or grass, if you’re lucky).
Move your body right now for an instant dose of freedom, no matter what else is happening in your life.
Move your body on a regular basis and you’ll get this injection of freedom every single time.
You don’t have to join a gym, perform a complicated set of exercises, or hire a trainer to get this feeling of freedom. All you have to do is move your body in a way that it doesn’t get moved in a normal day.
Go ahead, do it now. Roll your head gently around your neck. Fling your arms out to the side and push your chest forward. Feels good, doesn’t it? And you didn’t have to wait or pay anything to get it.

This week Betsy is still on crutches from her ankle injury and appreciating the dose of freedom that comes from floor exercise, a short walk/hobble in the sunshine, and the delicious pull that comes from a great stretch. Remember, all you have to do is move your body in a way it isn’t moving during the regular course of your day to enjoy that feeling of freedom.
- Freedom isn’t an all-or-nothing feeling.
- Your life doesn’t have to be perfect to enjoy freedom.
- Freedom can grow in your life if you nurture it
- The perfect time to cultivate your freedom is in the midst of feeling overwhelmed or stuck.
