Imagine there was a movie made about your life. Not the life you already have, but the life you have just started.
Well guess what? I just saw my movie!
Julie & Julia is the story of the blogger who spent a year cooking Julia Child’s recipes and writing about them in her blog. Along the way, she grew as a person, deepened her relationships, and even gained more confidence in herself. And she learned to cook!
Now, I don’t really want to learn to cook like Julia (sorry, Warren), but the idea of a year-long experiment to test my limits is very attractive. And there were so many parallels in the movie:
- Julia Child had a true partnership with her husband, and so do I. He called her “the butter on my bread,” and that is certainly the way I feel about Warren.
- Julie the blogger had some really successful friends, and they pushed her to be the writer she said she wanted to be (not always nicely, but that’s the movies for you). My friends are incredibly supportive, and they were the first readers of this blog.
- I’m still not sure what I want this to turn into. All I know is that I want to write about this entire experience. Julie Powell didn’t know what her blog would be either, or how it would impact her.
As I was watching the movie I saw our trip around the world as the cookbook. Can South America be overdone? Will we add enough spice to Asia? As Julia Child would say: “What will I dooooooooo?”
I hope you get a chance to see the movie and think about undertaking your own one-year experiment. What will you do? How will you document your progress? Who will hold you accountable?
Thank you again for reading and commenting. I love sharing this experience with all of you!
