Do you like famous quotes? I do, and it seems like every couple of weeks I find a new favorite, which I scribble on a pink index card and keep on my desk until a new one comes along. It takes me that long to really think about it, appreciate, and apply it to my life (with varying degrees of success).
In honor of Thanksgiving in the US this week, I want to share with you the current quote on my desk.
“Feel that you have enough and your sense of hunger will diminish.” ~ Barbara Ann Kiefer
I found this quote on Twitter and it resonated in a couple of different ways.
- My weight has always been a struggle for me, even when it is where I want to be, because I have a tendency to live/eat/love with a lot of gusto. Living and loving with gusto turns out pretty good. Eating, not so much.
- As we get down to the nitty gritty in donating and selling our possessions, I’m becoming a little freaked out. These are things that used to define me. Correction: These are obviously things that still do define me to some degree, or else I wouldn’t have so much trouble giving them up.
This quote reminds me that my sense of “enough” in all things – food, possessions, relationships – is largely set by me.
